What is the Canterbury Anniversary Day?

Canterbury Anniversary Day is a public holiday held public holiday held annually on November 15, in New Zealand's Canterbury Region of the South Island.

It celabrates the founding of the Canterbury Region and the arrival of the Four Ships(Charlotte Jane, Randolph, Sir George Seymour, Cressy) in 1850 and events are held across it, but majority of the celebrations take place in Christchurch.

It was celebrated on the 16 Dec but changed to November due to it being too close to Christmas.
