Tricks by numbers

Here are some of my favorite math tricks. Add the number to itself {in other words double it}. Example 4  times 9: doublwe 9 is 18 double 18 is 36 that one is pretty simple heres another. Cut it in half 10 times Example 5 times 6 cut 6 in half to get 3 then times 10 for 30 or times 10 then cut in half. Example 5 times 9 :  9 times 10 is 90 the cut it in half for 45 also the last digit goes 5, 0, 5, 0  ... like this 5, 10, 15, 20 .

Division grid

Today in nogos maths we were doing basic facts I got 98/100 here it is Division grid. For next time I wanna work pn the two I got wrong.

The Chatham islands are 800 kms east of Christchurch and 700 km's south east of Wellington and Bounty island is directly south of the Chatham islands . The native people of Chatham islands are Moriori. Moriori originated from Maori settlers from the New Zealand mainland around AD 1500.

On the Chatham Islands there a 3 islands. They are Rekohu and Wharekauri but there are many small islands on chatham islands but there the main ones

My Creation story

This term with Talei for Te ao Maori we have been learning about Myths. A myth is a stroy that explains how something came to be. Myths characters are gods, demigods and animals. We looked at the Maori creation story and recreated it. The people in my group were Lincoln, Bailey, Lukas here's our

Who were Moriori's ?

The people who became moriori arrived on the islands around 1400 AD. They had no contact with other people for about 400 years and developed their own distinct culture. They were hunter gatherers with strong religious beliefs  and outlawed war and killing. In 1790 an english ship the chatham was blown off course and landed on the main island. Later europeans sealers, settlers and whalers arrived. In 1835 two maori groups, Ngaiti Tama and Ngaiti Mutunga invaded the chatam islands.

Pink shirt day

Today is pink shirt day. Pink shirt day is a when you wear pink to stop bullying all around NZ. Pink shirt day began in 2007 in Canada when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new year 10 students were harassed and threatend for wearing pink. These students bought dozens of pink shirts and distributed them to their classmates to wear the next day. The word go out online and hundreads of students showed up in pink some from head-to-toe to stand together against bullying. It has been celabrated in NZ since 2009

Runnning the length of NZ

This term in literacy we have been learning how to write storys with similes and metaphor. I wrote a story on wednesday and here it is .The freezing cold wind is blowing through my lungs. Running and  running when is it ever going to end? I've already ran 10000 KM. Is it never ending? My heart is pounding in my chest fear all around while hearing the screeches from my friends. I'm scared, I feel fear, I feel my heart booming in my chest over and over again. The freezing conditions put you off even more than anything else. The  birds up above crying for help slip, slop’ slap the sounds of your feet hitting the ground. I heard footsteps coming up from behind  so I ran as fast as I could and I was running as fast as a cheetah. I could hear the wind whispering to me your going to fast.

Te Tahi Draft 1

           Simile                            Metaphor                          Ono                           Personification

The salt water was as cold as a freezer .

The cry of the seagull overhead.

Over and over again the waves kept crashing over.

The wind whispered in my ear.

The foam was as bubbly as a spa.

The crunch of my feet on my sand.

The driftwood crashing against the rocks.

The sunlight flashed

down on me like a ray of light.

A wave from the ocean rose up like an arm reaching for the shore.

The shadows hiding under the dark clouds.

The thunder of the  waves frightened me

The seagull danced across the sky

Today we went to the beach and the wind was really strong so strong that it whispered in my ear. A few minutes later I went towards the salt water and the smell was getting stronger and eventually I got further in the water and the water was as freezing as a freezer and I could stand it so I hopped out and enjoyed the scenery while walking on the sand. The crunch of the sand on my feet was really nice with the sunlight flashing down on me like a ray of light. Later I got tired so I started walking back and I heard a really loud sound so I turned around and I saw a wave from the ocean rise up like an arm reaching for the shore and after the wave there were heaps of driftwood crashing against the rocks. But after that wave hell became real over and over again the waves kept  crashing over the thunder of the waves frightened me so much that I

Ran back to my car and all you could see was the seagulls dancing in a circle across the sky above my car. The clouds were closing in and the shadows were hiding under them then the

This is my first draft I am lerning to use similes metaphors onomatopeioas and personification

Technology

Today at tech we did plastics and we were making jigsaw puzzles and key chains the jigsaw puzzle was really easy and fast to make  we just had to draw lines with a marker on the thin wood then cut it with the cutting machine after that the key chain for me was really hard I couldn't do it but I perservered and completed the task after I got the hang of it I was amazed how easy it was then after that we had to pack up and get ready for intervil.

My First Day In Tangaroa

My first day in Tangaroa I was a bit nervous because I didn't know what to expect this year in Tangaroa. Tangaroa seems really fun and full of opportunities. In Tangaroa you can learn much more than a main stream school like how to grow plants and drama. What I think about Tangaroa so far its a cool class and has heaps of really nice students and kaiako in Tangaroa.

Inquiry 1 - Seven Sisters

This term in Tangaroa we have been thinking about our inquiry question. Mr Redmon has been teaching us about the 7 sisters. The 7 sisters are Who, When, Why, How, What, Which, Where and we use them to narrow our focus question.

This is my first attempt at a focus question.

1.Where did my grandparents come from?

Fitness

This term us year 7's & 8's have been doing a fitness program and everyday we do it. We can choose

from an advanced group and just a normal group. Yesterday for the advanced group we had a 600 metre

run on the basketball court. We had to go up and down 4 times it was pretty hard but I persevered and

after we finished I was really happy because it was exhausting and fun at the same time. But on Monday

we did a game called follow the leader for 3 minutes and basically every time the teacher calls out a certain

person they have to run to the front and the person at the front goes to the back and it was just about as

exhausting as the 600 meter run but after that my throat was completely dry and I needed a drink of water

so I did then we finished.
